The following skiers have been selected for the NZTWSA Elite Squad:
Jaime Metcalfe, Morgan Diehl, Alex King, Lily Meade, Toni Atkinson, Courtney Williams.
This recognises the achievements in skiing that they have made and provides a grant to each skier to assist with coaching/training.
Congratulations to those skiers and wishing them all the best for the coming season.
It will be interesting to see how the international programme pans out in 2021 with so much uncertainty around Covid-19. We now have a travel bubble with 3 Australian States but currently still have to quarantine for 14 days upon return at a cost of $3100. Oceania Champs which were scheduled at Piarere in February have already been cancelled but there is still hope for Moomba (at least for Aust & NZ skiers) and Aussie/Kiwi. Junior Worlds & +35 Worlds have been rescheduled from 2020 to 2021 and 2021 is also the year we should be having Open Worlds & U21 Worlds. Greg Foran, CEO of Air NZ, believes there won`t be widespread international travel until there is a Covi-19 vaccine developed and in widespread use. That could still be some time away. At least we can look forward to a full NZ ski season.
