Junior Worlds, U21 Worlds, Open Worlds

Junior Worlds, U21 Worlds, Open Worlds.

The IWWF have announced that, at this stage, they will proceed with the postponed 2020 Junior World Champs along with the 2021 U21 and Open World Champs.

The U21 Worlds will be held immediately after Junior Worlds making it an 8 day event from 22nd to 29th August 2021 at Pickos Waterski School, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. As these are the postponed 2020 Junior Worlds, to be eligible you must have been no older than 16 on 31st December 2019. For the 2021 U21 Worlds you must have been no older than 20 on 31st December 2020

The Open Worlds will be held from 11th to 17th October at Jack Travers Ski School, Lake County, Florida.

The current thinking of the IWWF is that as long as 75% of the countries who normally attend are able to get to and from Florida without isolation requirements then the tournaments will go ahead .

The final call on these tournaments will not be made until 3 months prior, ie May 20th for U21 and U17 and July 10 for Open Worlds.

We are seeking expressions of interest from skiers for these events to see if it is viable to send NZ Teams to them. It would be wise for NZ based skiers to assume that they would have to quarantine for 2 weeks upon returning. You may consider this worthwhile if planning an extended stay in the US for training beforehand but please seek advise from appropriate agencies before making your decision.

Please email your expression of interest to krfirth@xtra.co.nz by Sunday 28th Feb 2021 clearly stating which Team/s you intend applying for.

Regards,

Kevin Firth, Convenor of Selectors.
